Card terminals, POS and PCI
Which terminal fits your office, and how card data stays out of your systems (and ours).
Pick the right setup
- Virtual terminal (hosted): take phone payments by typing the card into your processor's secure virtual terminal. No hardware.
- Countertop terminal: chip, tap and swipe at the office counter.
- Wireless terminal: walk-up rentals, the yard or the gate.
- Full POS: a register with scanner, printer and cash drawer if you sell locks, boxes and supplies.
- Unattended / kiosk reader: for a rental kiosk or gate pedestal; integrations are scoped with the processor.
Online renter payments (website rentals, pay links, autopay) don't need any hardware. They run on the processor's hosted payment page.
PCI in plain English
- Use only processor-certified terminals with point-to-point encryption (P2PE). The card is encrypted inside the device and only the processor can decrypt it.
- Card numbers are never typed into Storage Reservations, not by renters and not by staff. Phone payments go into the processor's hosted virtual terminal; online payments use its hosted payment page.
- We store only a token, the card brand and the last four digits.
- Never write card numbers down, email them or store them in notes.
Applying
When merchant services are available in your account, open Money → Merchant services to tell us about your business and answer a short terminal questionnaire. We'll suggest a setup and refer you to our processor partner, which collects sensitive details (SSN, bank account) on its own secure application, never through us.
